Will There Be An Iron Man 4 ? Robert Downey Jr. Speaks On It !!

Will There Be  An Iron Man 4 ? Robert Downey Jr. Speaks On It !!

As Iron Man 3 in theaters, continuing to rake in move (it's surpassed the $1 billion mark worldwide), fans wanna know: what's up with Iron Man 4. Marvel has already said that another installment would come, but will it include star Robert Downey Jr.?

Downey Jr. has already expressed reservations about returning to reprise his role as Tony Stark, especially since it wouldn't come until, at least, after Avengers 2 hits theaters in 2015... and he doesn't seem to wanna wait that long.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said he would definitely do one... if it was tomorrow, but it's not.

"I'd go start another one tomorrow, but it's not tomorrow," Downey said. "And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don't like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch."

Downey actually wants to begin to think about a career beyond Tony Stark and Marvel, which may include a third Sherlock Holmes movie, as well as other film franchises, such as David Dobkin's legal thriller The Judge and Jon Favreau's foodie comedy Chef, both of which he's been attached to.

"My intent is to launch another franchise, independent of any that I can even imagine right now," he explained to EW. "My intent is to dominate the playing field for as long as I can, with my own challenges, with myself."

Marvel, however, says Iron Man 4 will be made... with or without Downey. Studio president, Kevin Feige, believes Iron Man can be rebooted the same way the James Bond franchise did with various actors.

"I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told EW. "I see no reason why Tony Stark can't be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman for that matter. Or Spider-Man. I think Iron Man is a character just like that."

If Downey doesn't sign on, it's likely Marvel will move on with someone else. They already replaced Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, as well as Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

For now, only time will tell if Downey will remain Iron Man for, at least, one more standalone film.
