Study Shows Most African American Still Support Spanking

Republicans and African Americans may not agree on much, but they tend to be on the same page when it comes to spanking, according to a longtime study by the University Of Chicago.

Black Americans are more likely than any other racial group to spank their children, the results showed — and right wingers were right behind them.

“Republicans are more likely than either Democrats or independents to favor spanking,” the website FiveThirtyEight, which analyzed the numbers, added. In addition, 80 percent of born-again Christians support spanking. However, overall support among the rest of the people surveyed was at 65 percent and decreasing. Seventy percent of people surveyed favored spanking as of 2012.

That’s down from 84 percent of the country in 1986, when the University Of Chicago began collecting data for their spanking research. The study also found that the decline in spanking mirrored a decline in religious Americans.

Two years ago, the Pew Research Center reported that a fifth of Americans had no religious affiliations.

In addition, people from the Northeast are less likely to back spanking than Southerners. The study comes as NFL Minnesota Vikings player Adrian Peterson (pictured) deals with child abuse charges for hitting his 4-year-old son with a tree branch. The switch left welts on the boy’s leg and scrotum.
